NWSL – Run The Numbers – Houston Dash 1-1 Chicago Red Stars

The Red Stars stole a late point via a Taylor Comeau goal off a corner after a dreary offensive showing led to the Dash leading for much of the match.

Woman of the Match – Rachel Daly (HOU)

81% actions successful

3 key passes complete
1 cross complete
17 challenges won (out of 22)
5 dribbles won (out of 6)
3 tackles won (out of 3)
8 ball recoveries

There’s little to say about Daly, who absolutely dominated on the day. She was a creative force with 3 key passes and 5 dribbles while winning most of her challenges and all of her tackles. The English international wasn’t just great but dramatically better than anyone else on the pitch on Sunday.

Other Standouts

2. Katie Naughton (CHI)

Key Stat: 6 of 6 aerial challenges won

Naughton was crucial in providing the Red Stars aerial dominance, winning all six of her challenges in the air and eleven challenges overall. Completing 91% of her passes also didn’t hurt her cause.

3. Sarah Gorden (CHI)

Key Stat: 6 challenges won (out of 8)

Gorden was brought on a little after the half and made a strong claim for more playing time. While her 92% pass completion rate was well appreciated, she also won six tackles and recovered seven balls.

4. Taylor Comeau (CHI)

Key Stat: 11 challenges won (out of 13)

Yeah, Comeau snagged a point with the late goal, but her defensive contributions were just as important, as she dominated her zone and won a good many challenges in the right middle flank zone.

5. Janine Van Wyk (HOU)

Key Stat: 16 ball recoveries

Van Wyk looked like a different player than last year’s edition, completing 83% of her passes and winning nine challenges. Her 16 ball recoveries were a match high.

  1. Summer Green (CHI)

Key Stat: 7 challenges lost (out of 7)

Green was a disaster for Chicago on Sunday with no shots, no key passes, no challenges won, and no successful dribbles. She only lasted an hour, but Green might struggle for major minutes in the future given such displays

2. Alyssa Mautz (CHI)

Key Stat: 16 challenges lost (out of 24)

Ever the mercurial player, the bad Mautz showed up on Sunday. On top of losing sixteen challenges, Mautz lost the ball eleven times overall

3. Sofia Huerta (CHI)

Key Stat: 17 challenges lost (out of 25)

It’s a minor miracle Huerta isn’t bottom of this list after losing a team high 17 challenges and completing just 62% of her passes. Huerta really should have been booked for persistent infringement as well, after racking up five fouls.

    Hey Chris,

    Thanks for posting these.

One request: How about a glossary that defines what all the categories are?

Why are successful dribbles and tackles won listed as %? When the total for the teams are added they do not equal 100.

Both teams didn’t attempt the same number of dribbles and tackles, hence totals not adding up to 100.
